EmPower believes that green building is the only responsible solution to new construction and renovation. The two most widely accepted and rigorous standards of green and energy efficient construction are Energy Star and LEED.
Energy Star
Energy Star is a federal standard that rates energy performance of many electricity consuming devices There are Energy Star ratings for appliances and lights, and there is also an energy star rating system for homes that refers to insulation, windows and other components that impact building energy performance. These measures can reduce home energy costs dramatically over time and increase property value.
Achieving Energy Star status decreases the size requirements of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems, thereby reducing the upfront costs associated with the installation. The Energy Star process is involved and there are a limited number of certified professionals that are qualified to do this work. EmPower is trained and capable of managing energy star projects.
LEED
The US Green Building Council's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® is the nationally recognized standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED emphasizes state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Beyond energy savings and quality of life improvements, LEED buildings are news makers and provide business owners with an immediate marketing boost.
EmPower is heavily involved in the USGBC and offers its clients consultation and LEED project management in combination with partners in order to deliver the broad expertise necessary to execute such high performance buildings.
